Conditions we help with
What we help with
Most of what we treat is muscle and joint tightness, new and old injuries, and the stiffness that builds up from training, work or simply getting older. Find the area you are dealing with below.
We treat muscle and joint tightness, new and long standing injuries, post exercise soreness, tension headaches, sciatica, frozen shoulder and the general stiffness that builds up from training, desk work or age. Treatments take place at our Birchgrove clinic in Swansea, two minutes from Junction 44 of the M4, and are led by Richard Clarke, a senior therapist with 18 years of experience.
By body area
Six groups, so you can find yours quickly
If you cannot see what is bothering you, that does not mean we cannot help. Call us and describe it in your own words.
Back and neck
The area we see most, from sudden spasms to aches that have crept in over years.
- Lower back pain
Lifting, desk work, driving or training loads that the back never gets a rest from.
- Sciatica and referred leg pain
Tightness and pain travelling from the back or glutes down into the leg.
- Neck and shoulder pain
Stiffness and aching built up from screens, driving and hours in one position.
- Desk and posture related pain
Pain that follows from how you sit, drive or hold a phone through the day.
- Tension headaches
Headaches that start in tight neck and shoulder muscles rather than the head itself.
- Upper back and shoulder blade tightness
The knot between the shoulder blades that never quite releases.
Shoulder and arm
Shoulders carry a lot, and they are quick to lose range when something is guarding.
- Frozen shoulder
A shoulder that has become painful and stiff to move, day by day.
- Rotator cuff and shoulder impingement
Pain reaching overhead, or on the front of the shoulder under load.
- Tennis elbow
Pain on the outside of the elbow, from gripping, lifting and repeated use.
- Golfers elbow
Pain on the inside of the elbow, from gripping and repeated wrist work.
- Wrist and forearm pain
Aching and tightness from gripping, lifting or long hours at a keyboard.
- Trapped nerve in the shoulder or arm
Pins and needles or aching referred down the arm.
Hip and leg
Hips drive almost everything below them, so tightness here shows up all over the lower half.
- Hip pain
Tightness around the hip and glute that changes how you walk and run.
- Piriformis syndrome
Deep buttock pain that mimics sciatica, and the muscle that usually causes it.
- Groin strain
Pulls and lingering tightness on the inside of the thigh, common in sport that involves changing direction.
- Hamstring strain
New pulls and the older ones that keep threatening to return.
- Runners knee
Pain around the kneecap that builds with running volume and stairs.
- IT band syndrome
Tension down the outside of the thigh that pulls on the knee.
- Calf strain
Calves that tighten early, cramp at night or feel heavy after training.
Foot and ankle
The feet take the first load of every step, and problems here travel upwards quickly.
- Plantar fasciitis
That sharp first step out of bed in the morning, and heel pain under load.
- Achilles pain
A tendon that feels stiff and sore at the start of a run or a walk.
- Ankle stiffness after injury
Ankles that have never quite come back to full movement.
- Shin splints
Pain along the shin that builds with running volume.
- Foot and toe tightness
Stiffness across the top of the foot and through the toes.
Recovery and general
Not every treatment is about a problem. A lot of what we do is keeping you moving well.
- Sports injury recovery
How soft tissue work fits alongside the rest of your recovery, from the first week back to returning to full training.
- Muscle knots
The tender bands of muscle people can usually put a finger on.
- DOMS
Delayed onset muscle soreness, the heavy legs after a race, a long ride or a first session back.
- Competition preparation and tapering
Freshening up in the days before an event.
- General stiffness and reduced mobility
Movement that has quietly become smaller than it used to be.
- Stress and tension held in the body
The physical side of a long, tense stretch of work or life.
- General relaxation and wellbeing
A gentler treatment with no injury to work around at all.
Joints and exercise after 40
Staying active later in life asks different questions of the body than it did at twenty.
- Arthritis pain and stiffness
Hip and knee joints that ache, stiffen and need time to get going.
- General joint aches
Shoulders, hips and knees that complain more than they used to.
- Staying active after 40
Keeping up the running, cycling or gym work you want to carry on doing.
- Returning to exercise over 40
Building activity back up gradually without the old niggle returning.
- Joint pain and stiffness during menopause
Aching joints and disrupted sleep, and how soft tissue work fits alongside exercise and medical care.
- Post surgery rehabilitation support
Soft tissue work alongside whatever your physio has set.
