Dafen Park, Llanelli
Jamie Stedman treats from his own room at Dafen Park, working with runners, athletes and anyone whose working week has left them stiff and sore. If you have been meaning to get something looked at, this is the easiest place to start.
Sports massage in Llanelli is available at Jamie Stedman's own treatment room at Unit 1-2, Heol Rhosyn, Dafen Park, SA14 8QG, which means you can be seen in town rather than driving to Swansea. Jamie works with Llanelli Athletics Club and treats a running-heavy client base, alongside the aches that come from desk work and long hours on the road.

What We Treat
Llanelli runs. The town has a serious running culture, and Llanelli Athletics Club is at the centre of it, with Jamie Stedman working directly with club athletes. That shows in what comes through the door. We see more calf, achilles, hamstring and iliotibial band problems here than anywhere else we cover, and more of the specific lower back stiffness that builds from high mileage on tarmac and road camber.
The running pattern has its own logic, and it is worth understanding because it explains why the problem is rarely where it hurts. Distance running loads the calf and achilles thousands of times per session, and when those tighten the ankle loses range, which changes how the knee tracks, which changes what the hip and lower back have to do. A sore lower back in a runner is very often the end of a chain that started at the ankle.
Then there is rugby, and the presence of Parc y Scarlets is part of what gives the town its character. The Scarlets are a regional side with a deep local following, and rugby is played at every level across Llanelli and the surrounding villages. The problems rugby brings are different again: shoulders, necks, and the contact load through the lower back and hips. Where someone runs in the week and plays at the weekend, the two sets of demands stack, and the lower back is usually what notices first.
Beyond sport, Llanelli has a large number of people whose working day is spent driving or at a desk, whether that is commuting along the M4 or working from home. That produces the familiar pattern of a tight neck, heavy shoulders and an ache between the shoulder blades that builds through the week and eases at the weekend. It is not dramatic, and it is exactly the kind of thing that responds well to being dealt with before it becomes something worse.
What links all of it is that people here tend to be active and want to stay that way. Almost everyone who gets in touch wants to know when they can train again, not whether they should stop. That shapes how we work. Our page on returning to exercise over 40 covers the sensible way back in.

Local clubs and facilities
Knowing what a training week looks like helps before you come in, and these are the places we see most.
Jamie works directly with the club, which means he understands what a training block actually asks of a runner. Track sessions, tempo runs and long Sunday miles each leave a different mark, and knowing which one caused a problem changes how it is treated. If you are training for a half marathon or a marathon, tell us when you book and we will work around your schedule.
The regional ground is the biggest sporting landmark in town, and rugby is played throughout Llanelli and the villages around it. Contact sport puts load through the shoulder, neck and lower back in ways running never does, and we treat players across the age groups. Where someone plays as well as runs, we look at both.
Where a lot of the town does strength work, swimming and classes. A new programme, a heavier phase or a return after a break are the usual points where something that had been coping stops coping. Gym work is rarely the cause on its own, but it is often the thing that reveals a problem that was already there.
The path along the Burry Estuary is where a lot of local running happens, and it is a beautiful place to put in miles. What it is not is undulating, and long stretches of flat, even surface mean the same muscles work in the same way for the whole run. That repetition is worth knowing about if you have had problems that keep coming back at the same point in a training cycle.
The Dafen Park clinic shares its building with Fitter Body Ladies Llanelli, a women only gym we own and run. Clients often pair a treatment with their training week, and it is the same building either way.

Jamie uses nice, strong movements which are needed to help loosen up my back muscles. I have suffered with back problems and tightness around the upper back and shoulder, and I can feel it getting better with every treatment.

It depends on the race and how you are feeling. Many runners find a session in the last fortnight is useful for freshening up, but it is worth getting anything that is niggling looked at earlier rather than leaving it until race week. Tell us what you are training for when you book and we will work around your schedule.
