The treatment
Slow, gentle and unhurried
This is the treatment to choose when you want to feel better rather than be worked on. The pressure stays light to medium throughout, the strokes are longer and slower, and there is no point in the session where you need to brace yourself for what comes next.
It is a genuinely good place to start if you have never had a massage before, or if you have had one in the past and found it too much. Plenty of people arrive unsure whether they will enjoy it, and leave wondering why they waited so long. Nothing happens in this treatment that you have not agreed to first.
You can choose half body, focusing on the area that bothers you most, or full body if you would rather switch off completely. Most clients picking the 60 minute option go for the full body, while 30 minutes tends to suit a focused neck and shoulder or foot session.
Neck and shoulder
For desk bound tightness and the tension that sits across the top of the shoulders.
Foot
For anyone on their feet all day, or with tired, aching feet.
Half body
One area only, when you know where the problem is.

If this is your first time
Nothing to worry about, honestly
Feeling unsure about a first massage is completely normal. Most people are, and the good news is that this treatment asks very little of you. You do not need to be flexible, you do not need to be fit, and you do not need to know anything about anatomy.
You stay covered with a towel throughout, and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time. If you would rather keep your shorts and t-shirt on, that is completely fine. There is no expectation that you undress any further than you are comfortable with, and you can say no to anything at any point.
If you would like to know exactly how an appointment runs before you arrive, the first visit page walks through it from the moment you arrive.
Returning to exercise
Starting again, gently
A lot of clients come to this treatment in their forties and beyond, having decided to get moving again. Bodies that have been out of regular activity for a while respond differently, and they tend to want to be coaxed rather than pushed.
Gentle work is a sensible companion to that stage. It helps with the stiffness that shows up in the weeks after starting again, and it gives you a sense of what is simply unused versus what is genuinely strained. From there, many clients move on to the firmer treatments once they are training consistently.
There is no rush to get there. The right time to move up to deeper work is when you want it, not when a schedule says so.
- No deep pressure, at any point
- Fully covered throughout, always
- A good first step after a long break
What to expect
A calm hour, start to finish
A quiet conversation
We ask what has been bothering you and how much pressure you want. You set the tone for the session before anything begins.

What we treat with it
Conditions relaxing massage helps with
This is the gentler treatment, which makes it the right choice where the tissue is tender, where sleep is part of the problem, or where you are new to massage. These are the conditions we most often treat with it.
Common questions
Relaxing massage, answered
How much pressure is used?
This is a gentler treatment than our deep tissue or sports massage. The work is slow and unhurried, with light to medium pressure rather than anything firm, so it suits anyone who finds deeper work uncomfortable.
Should I book 30 or 60 minutes?
Thirty minutes suits a focused area, such as the neck and shoulders or the back. Sixty minutes allows for a half body or full body treatment at a relaxed pace. If you are unsure, tell us what you are hoping for and we will suggest one.
Is it suitable if I have an injury or a specific problem?
It can help with general tension, but it is not aimed at a specific injury. If you have a particular problem you want addressed, our deep tissue or sports massage is the better fit, and we will say so honestly rather than treat the wrong thing.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing you can move in. You will be asked to undress to your underwear for treatment, and you are covered with towels throughout. Only the area being worked on is uncovered.
How do I book?
Call 07971 742797 or send an enquiry through the form on this page. There is no online booking at the moment. If the call is not answered, please leave a message, we are often mid session and will return your call.
What happens if I need to cancel or arrive late?
We ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or rearrange. If you arrive late we will still see you, but the appointment may need to finish at its original time so the next client is not kept waiting, and the full fee still applies if the session has to be shortened or cannot go ahead.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken at the time of your appointment. We accept cash, card and bank transfer. New clients need to pay in advance before a first appointment.
